Lur'eCall Number: Repr.M5 Material type: ArticleArticleSubject(s): Phenol | Formaldehyde In: International Polymer Science and Technology 45(1)2018:31-34Summary: Technology is described for the polycondensation combination of the main components of polymer matrix composites, a particular feature of which is the combination of the process of phenol-formaldehyde oligomer synthesis with reinforcement of the oligomer with basalt fibres. An advantage of the technology is the increased strength and physicochemical characteristics of the basalt-filled plastics. It is shown that the basalt fibres can be wetted adequately by a mixture of monomers and that the formed structure (strand-polymer matrix) is dense and strong and does not contain pores, with the surface of the composite material being protected by a reliable hydrophobic binder film. The process parameters of the formation of basalt-filled plastics are a temperature of 155 + or -5C and a pressure of 25 + or -2 MPa, ensuring the production of an unstressed, densely crosslinked structure, without causing the formation of microcracks either in the polymer itself or at the interface between the inorganic fibre and organic polymer.
