Organo-modified clay changes from hydrophilic to organophillic after reacting with organic-cationic surfactant. Small amounts of organoclay, added to polymer, impart many rheological characteristics and enhance physico-mechanical properties. Varying amounts of PVC added to epoxy indicated 5 phr PVC imparts best properties to epoxy. Various amounts of organo-modified clay, with loading varying from 1 to 9 phr, added to epoxy/PVC mixture, demonstrated that optimum to best mechanical properties are achieved with Epoxy/5 phr PVC/5 phr organomodified montmorillonite clay composites.
