ทุเรียนเทศ เป็นไม้ยืนต้นขนาดเล็ก ถิ่นกำเนิดอยู่ในอเมริกาเขตร้อน มีการนำมาปลูกแพร่หลาย ในประเทศเขตร้อน มีผลสีเขียวรูปกลมรี มีหนามนิ่ม รสเปรี้ยวอมหวาน ภาคใต้นิยมนำผลอ่อนใช้ทำแกงส้มเชื่อม และคั้นทำเครื่องดื่ม ส่วนเมล็ดใช้เบื่อปลาและเป็นยาฆ่าแมลง ส่วนใบมีสรรพคุณทางยาใช้รักษาโรคผิวหนัง แก้ไอ ปวดตามข้อ และความดันโลหิตสูง สารสกัดจากใบทุเรียนเทศมีฤทธิ์ระงับปวด ต้านการอักเสบ ลดน้ำตาลและไขมันในเลือดสัตว์ทดลองที่เป็นเบาหวานได้ มีฤทธิ์ต้านอนุมูลอิสระที่ดี มีฤทธิ์ทำลายเซลล์มะเร็งหลายชนิด โดยไม่ทำอันตรายต่อเซลล์ปกติ เช่น มะเร็งปอด มะเร็งเต้านม มะเร็งผิวหนัง มะเร็งลำไส้ มะเร็งตับอ่อน ต่อมลูกหมาก ขณะนี้นักวิจัยต่างคาดหวังว่า พืชสมุนไพรทุเรียนเทศสามารถพัฒนาต่อยอดเป็นยารักษามะเร็งหรืออาจใช้ร่วมกับเคมีบำบัดในอนาคต ซึ่งยังต้องผ่านกระบวนการศึกษาวิจัยกลไกการออกฤทธิ์ต่อเซลล์ต้นกำเนิดมะเร็ง การส่งสัญญาณภายในเซลล์ การแยกสารสำคัญชนิดต่าง ๆ การควบคุมคุณภาพและมาตรฐาน รวมถึงการศึกษาด้านพิษวิทยาและความปลอดภัย เพื่อให้การนำสมุนไพรทุเรียนเทศมาใช้บำบัดโรคมะเร็งได้อย่างมีประสิทธิภาพและปลอดภัย.

Soursop is a small perennial plant originated in tropical America that brings to plant in tropical countries. It has oval-shaped green, spiny anteater, sour and sweet taste. In south of Thailand popular use baby fruits to make hot and sour soup, syrupy and squeezed to make drinks. About seeds can use to poison fishes and as a pesticide. Leaves have medicinal properties to dermatitis treatment, solve coughing, joint pain and high blood pressure. Extract from soursop leaves have pain relief effects, anti-inflammatory, reduce sugar and fat in laboratory animal blood with diabetes, good on antioxidant effect. It also can destroy many types of cancer cells without harming normal cells such as lung cancer, breast cancer, skin cancer, bowel cancer, pancreatic cancer, prostate cancer. Now, researchers were expecting soursop can develop new drugs to treat cancer cells may be combined with chemotherapy in the future which process must also study about the mechanism of action on cancer stem cells, intracellular signaling, various important substance separation, quality and standard control including toxicology studies and safety to make soursop used in cancer therapy with effectively and safety.
