เนียง เป็นไม้ยืนต้นไม่ผลัดใบขนาดเล็กถึงขนาดกลาง สูงประมาณ 10-15เมตร ใบประกอบแบบขนนกสองชั้น ปลายใบเรียวแหลม ยอดอ่อนมีสีแดง มีดอกสีขาวขนาดเล็ก ผลลักษณะเป็นฝักแบน ยาว มีส่วนคอดเว้าระหว่างเมล็ดคล้ายเกือกม้า ผิวสีน้ำตาลคล้ำหรือน้ำตาลอมม่วง ภาคใต้นิยมรับประทานลูกเนียงเป็นผักสด ใช้เมล็ดอ่อนจิ้มน้ำพริกหรือกินร่วมกับอาหารรสเผ็ด มีสรรพคุณแก้โรคเบาหวาน และเป็นยาขับปัสสาวะ.

Niang is standing timber, without leaf shedding, small to medium size, 10-15 meters high, leaves look likes feather with 2 levels, leaves has sharp shape, red shoot, white flower, flat and long pod with narrow and cove between seeds look likes horseshoe, fruits with brown or brown purple. In south of Thailand consume Niang as vegetable by dip baby seed in chili paste or eat with spicy foods. Niang can cure diabetes and diuretics.
