คณะวิจัยจากกรมหม่อนไหมและมหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่น ได้ศึกษาวิจัยพัฒนาผลิตภัณฑ์อาหารเสริมสุขภาพจากผลหม่อนและดักแด้ไหม ซึ่งการศึกษาศักยภาพในการแปรรูปผลหม่อนเป็นผลิตภัณฑ์เสริมสุขภาพในการป้องกันการตายของเซลล์ประสาทที่เหนี่ยวนำในภาวะสมองขาดเลือดในโรคหลอดเลือดสมอง โรคอัลไซเมอร์ และการป้องกันและลดการทำลาย เซลล์ประสาทจากพิษสุรา ได้ผลเป็นที่น่าพอใจ ขณะนี้อยู่ระหว่างการยื่นขออนุสิทธิบัตรเพื่อนำเข้าสู่กระบวนการผลิตเป็นแคปซูลและผลิตภัณฑ์ต่างๆ เพื่อใช้ประโยชน์ทางการแพทย์และทดแทนการนำเข้าผลิตภัณฑ์เสริมอาหารจากต่างประเทศได้
